Hello There,

I've been studying/practicing so hard since I finished my Powerscore online course from August, and I was able to raise my score by 10 points. I do struggle however to finish the LG section on time.
On average I finish 3 games, and barely make it half way through the 4th before time ends.
Obviously, I cannot do much to improve that in 2 days, but any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Sarah

Hey Sarah,

First of all, good job on raising your score by 10 points already! Second, I'm afraid it won't be easy to master new techniques in just two days (though others may feel differently about this). If it were me, I'd play with your section strategy to minimize the number of questions you have to guess on blindly. For instance, you mention that you are barely able to get through the 4th game, so I assume you only have about 5 minutes left for it. This would cost you quite a few points if the fourth game has 7 questions, and would be especially misguided if the fourth game happens to be an easy one. So, you may want to examine all four of the games and develop a plan of action: start with the easiest game, and never leave the game with the most questions for the end (unless you suspect it's an exceptionally difficult game).

Also, each of the four games usually has one particularly nasty question. It could be a rule substitution question, a rule equivalency question, or the like. If you wanted to get to the end of the fourth game, why not skip that one question (if any) in each of the preceding three games? This would cost you at most 3 points, but the cost might be well worth it if it allows you to complete the section. Remember - each question is worth exactly 1 point. You are better off guessing on 3 difficult questions in order to answer 3 easy ones, because the risk of getting the difficult questions wrong is obviously higher. In other words, your probability of correctly answering all 3 of these questions is higher if the questions are easy.

I'd experiment with this strategy today, and if it works - use it on Saturday. But don't try anything new on the day of the test: whatever strategy you will be using, make sure you've tested it in advance.

Good luck!

Thanks Nikki, I appreciate your advice.

I do have the hardest time answering the substitute and suspend rule questions.
I will try leaving those questions out of my practice sections today & tomorrow, and hopefully that will work.

Thanks again for your help
