Hello,

I attempted to look at a previous explanation for this question but it didn't help. I definitely identified the viewpoints and went directly to the my boxed off viewpoint about Political Theorists. ...... implicitly, the classical theory trivializes the political ends of movement participants, focusing rather on presumed psychological dysfunctions; with the semi colon info after that so I was looking for an answer that said something like rather than presumed psychological dysfunctions should have focused on political ends .... I ended up with A not too sure f that even fit my prephrase or if my prephrase was accurate .... so my questions is why and how is it E? Thank you so much !!

Hi JK,

This can be a very challenging question; it asks about what the author says, about what the political theorists believe, regarding the psychologists who apply classical theory to the civil rights movement.

The lines that you chose do indeed represent the perspective of those political theorists: The political theorists' arguments rely on the conviction that the classical theory trivializes politics and focuses instead on "presumed psychological dysfunctions."

So, what do these political theorists think about the psychologists who apply the classical theory? According to these theorists, the psychologists implicitly trivialize political motives and instead focus on psychological dysfunction," as you pointed out.

Correct answer choice (E) provides that, according to the political theorists, the referenced social psychologists assume psychological motivations shed more light on the the causes of social movements than political motivations.

I hope that's helpful! Again, this question can be very challenging, so please let me know whether this is clear--thanks!
