Hi JK,
Thanks for writing!
This is a Cannot Be True question.
The hypothesis referenced in the question indicates that plants with high photosynthetic efficiency could lose that advantage in high CO2 environments. That is, for plants with high efficiency, that efficiency is partially lost (plants are less productive) when there's more CO2. Answer choice C indicates that trees with high efficiency increase and grow, while grasses with low efficiency don't grow as fast. That is essentially the opposite of the proposed hypothesis, meaning in answer choice C, high efficiency + high CO2 has the opposite effect, more growth rather than less.
Hope this helps!
Beth
