[Administrator Note: in the newer editions of the LRB, this problem appears on page 247 or later; this is because the newer versions have had hundreds of pages of new material added, including expanded concept discussion, updated test information, and refined question discussions. If you have an older version where this is on a lower page number, consider updating to a newer version—you're missing a lot of new info!]
Hi,
The conclusion of the problem on page-183 is, "a business that wishes to retain its power as long as it can must act responsibly," and the relationship can be diagrammed as:
a business that wishes to retain its power as long as it can act responsibly.
Considering answer choice C, doesn't "erode more slowly" tell the same thing as "as long as it can," which makes "The power of some institutions erodes more slowly than power of others, whether they are socially responsible or not" the relationship where sufficient condition could occur without the necessary condition?
Thanks.
