I see so the fact those three scenarios are presented is the fact that I'm attacking THOSE types of assumptions that would be made by the author who otherwise believes they are solid arguments. So, for instance, when there is an "improper comparison" then I would attack the author's assumption under which he made an improper comparison and exploit it, which would then undermine the conclusion at hand.
