Something I've noticed (and I believe it's for all schools) is a question in the application process, under "Law School Interest" that asks: Are you applying, or have you applied, to other law schools?

Do I have to answer this question and how will it be viewed? I'm applying primarily to NY schools (though a few CA ones). But I don't want it to look like all I have interest skewed all other the place.
Thanks!

Hi Julie,

This is a common question on law school applications, and there is really no reason not to answer it. Its purpose is to let law schools know what other options you might be considering, which in turn might affect their estimation of whether or not you would enroll if admitted. It is highly unlikely that your answer would affect your chances of admission. Also, keep in mind you don't need to list all the other schools you're applying. The general rule of thumb is to list a few schools with similar levels of reputation (regional or national) that would be considered the target school's natural competitors. It's perfectly acceptable to list schools in other regions as well: nobody would hold this against you.

However you answer, rest assured that schools will base their decisions on other factors in your application :)

Good luck!
