Assumption in family set #2

Why are they set in family set #2 when assumption questions ask you to determine the necessary assumption/unstated premise from the argument we have read? It is like a must be true question but you are finding the assumption that is necessary for the conclusion to be derived logically. The family set #2 is meant to bring in new information and that is what we are NOT doing with assumption questions. Justify questions we can bring in outlandish and new information that is sufficient with allowing the conclusion to be derived logically.

Thank you for your question! Family #2 is the "help" family where you assist or help the author's argument by either revealing an assumption of the argument or in some other fashion. A Family #2 question does not NECESSARILY mean there is new information--only indicates that there *can* be new information. You are using information from the answer choices to help support the author's argument.

That being said don't worry too much about the theory behind Family 2 as much as how to approach assumption questions. You seem to get that from your question!

Haha, thank you because some tend to go for the first family set and others with the second family set. IT felt like a hybrid between the two
