Would having to work full time (under the table labor) be a legitimate reason for a GPA addendum? Got a 3.4 from a UC in CA. My last four classes I had to take pass/fail because It was becoming increasingly difficult to pay for college.

Also off topic question, what counts as being a UMR? Only African American, Latino, and Native- American? Or would any ethnic group count such as being Asian; Indian, or Chinese for example?

Harman,

Working while in college is certainly a legitimate reason for writing an addendum, if such work has prevented you from achieving top grades. That said, please don't tell law schools you were working "under the table." Do you really want to admit to tax evasion on your law school application? Probably not. Remember - anything you say now will be relevant to passing the Character and Fitness portion of the Bar, so tread lightly!

To answer your off-topic question, American Indians/Alaskan Natives, African Americans/Blacks, Mexican Americans, and Puerto Ricans are generally considered "minority applicants." These are the only groups for which the LSAC regularly publishes admissions data. And no, Asian-Americans and other Hispanics are not considered "underrepresented" in law school, so they don't qualify for such treatment. Anecdotal evidence suggests that some law schools consider socioeconomic status in qualifying you as an UMR, but it's not a commonly adopted practice.

Hope this helps!
