Complete Question Explanation
(The complete setup for this game can be found here: lsat/viewtopic.php?t=17097)

The correct answer choice is (E)

When X is assigned to class 3, the diagram appears as follows:
S95_Game_#1_#4_diagram 1.png
The remaining variables are V, Z, W, Y, and T. Because the VZ pair and the WY pair cannot be added to the same class, they must occupy spaces in different classes. Thus, they must each occupy a space in class 1 and class 2:

T is the only remaining variable, and thus T must be added to class 2:

Accordingly, answer choice (E) cannot be true and is correct.

Good afternoon,
I am reviewing my answers to the LSAT for September 1995 and was wondering how to best approach correcting some of the answers for the questions since no explanations are provided.

for #4: is a matter of a diagramming out each option and to see where the rules are violated? or is there a faster way?

Thank you so much!

Hello Sara,

As for the problem as a whole: they don't give you too much helpful information. You know that v hates z, and also that y hates s and w (so that y can't be in group 3), and that if t is in 1, then v can't be there (because of z). However, you may not know too much besides that. So, people may just have to struggle with individual problems without having too many brilliant inferences to help them.

Question 4 is similar to question 3: with r, t, and z crammed into group 1, and y and x filling group 3, that forces a lot of the haters into group 2, which fails.

Hope this helps,
David
