I just finished taking the LSAT and am now trying to boost my resume to apply for law school and I have no idea what type of job or volunteer work to look for that will give me leadership skills? Any tips or personal experience on the types of jobs or volunteer activities you participated in?

Thank You!

Hi Chica,

Thanks for the question! Resume-building is something that usually takes time, and because you have to invest so much time and energy into it, the key is for you to be involved in things that you enjoy and have fun doing. Law schools don't worry so much about the exact nature of the activity, they just want to see you put time and effort into it. When you do that, you end up getting more responsibility and eventually leadership. The key is to find one or two things and go deep with them. Don't do ten different activities superficially—that makes you look like you can't commit.

I talked with one of my colleagues a while back about the resume, and you might find it helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dNtrpNPXeU.

Our Creating a Killer Law School Application guide might also help—there's an article in there on extracurriculars. Check it out!

Thanks!
