Law School App. Question Regarding School Interruption

Hi,

I'm in the process of filling out my law school applications and there is a question asking if your education has been interrupted for six months or more for any reason. After graduating with my AA from community college I took a couple years off to work before beginning another school for my BA. Should I answer yes to this question or since I graduated one program and later began another, is this not considered an interruption?

Good question! I think you have a good argument here that your education was not interrupted, but the very fact that you raised the question means that it isn't completely clear. Would an admissions officer think you were trying to hide something by saying no? Would a bar examiner think you were dishonest if you said no? Err on the side of caution, in my opinion, and say yes, with a clear explanation like you just did. Explain what you did between getting those degrees, and why. They can't fault you for saying yes, but they might for saying no, so don't risk looking bad.

Use this guideline throughout your application process, and your schooling, and your bar application, and ultimately in your law practice. When a question arises, err on the side of caution and the strictest application of ethics. Be open and transparent. Be honest and forthcoming. And, when you have doubts, do like you just did and ask others for advice and assistance. You can't go wrong by trying to do what's right!
