Hello! This was the only question I got wrong in this set, and I had a strong feeling I was wrong right after I chose it too, heh. But I couldn't bring myself to choose C. I chose D, but realized it was probably wrong because that last paragraph doesn't mention anything about other groups "profiting" from the Pico workers example. But I felt it could potentially be correct because other groups could profit (in the future) from the points that the author makes in the last paragraph.

But anyway, much more importantly, I didn't choose C because I felt that wasn't really the function of the paragraph... like, I did not get the impression at all that the author wrote that paragraph because they wanted to explain why the Pico workers were accorded such broad support...

Oh dang. Just now realizing/remembering as I'm typing this that there is a difference between function and purpose questions... heh, whoops. Well.. in that case, could someone please address/explain function questions (& what the correct answers look like), using this question here as an example ?? Please? Thanks !!!

Function and Purpose are virtually identical most of the time. The Function is what the passage accomplished - it argued, it described, it criticized, etc. Purpose is what the author wanted to accomplish - to argue, to describe, to criticize, etc. These differ from Main Point in that MP asks "what was this about", while Purpose asks "why did the author write it".
