Just looking for any and all advice on what to do for my retake on Saturday!
I took in September and hit my PT average of 168. Having exhausted basically all the recent PTs for drilling/full exams in preparation for September, I only had a bunch of PTs from the 1990s plus a small handful of recent-ish tests for this time around. Deciding to save the few recent exams I had for the tail end of my October prep, my first two and a half-ish months following September were spent taking full PTs from the 1990s and early 2000s. Across 18 (!) of those old exams, I was averaging a 173 with many in the mid-high 170s.
When the time came to transition to the newer exams two weeks ago, I didn't anticipate much problem - maybe a point or two drop, which I would've been fine with. Instead, the five scores I've gotten with the only newer exams I have remaining (i.e. PT J07, 67, C2, 81, 68) have gone 166-169-169-164-168 - which would put my average score right around where I was testing on recent exams before September, if not slightly lower.
The only factors I can think of for this score drop would be mild burnout, much harsher curves (J07, C2, and 81 all coincidentally had very tight curves), and somewhat poorer scores in LR+considerably poorer scores in RC. I have a hard time believing that old vs. new exams alone could account for a 6-point drop in PT scores... but to have this drop coincide precisely with the newer exams plus not getting a single 170+ on them (my final two PTs before September were 170-171, which was a big boost) has been very disconcerting.
The problem is I cannot postpone my retake (time just won't allow as I will be starting a new job in January; not applying this cycle) - so it's either withdraw and move on with a 168, or retake with my fingers crossed for a 169 or 170 as opposed to a lower score (which seems distinctly possible at this point). Part of me thinks that a mere 1-2 point bump paired with my GPA would not be a huge help, whereas a drop in score (especially with it being my final score as opposed to my first) sounds scary haha. I'd appreciate any and all advice on which road to take - thanks!! And good luck to any of those who will be taking on Saturday!
