This is what makes this question so puzzling. the powerscore's answer sheet says the information to answer is located in line 48-50. which I agree on which reads: "Many Mexican American writers assert that rather than working to be absorbed into U.S. Society, they are engaged in the process of creating a new identity. "

according to the answer sheet, it says C) is correct, an identity that resists absorption by U.S. Culture. instead of A) Stylistic innovations that distinguish their work from that of Mexican Writers (creating a Mexican American style)

You're correct on all fronts, lathlee, so I am not sure what you're asking. Were you thinking that answer A was a contender? As you said, the key is the language about resisting absorption into U.S. culture, and answer C captures that perfectly. This isn't about the style of their writing, and it isn't about distinguishing themselves from Mexican writers. It's not about trying not to write like Mexican writers, but about trying to develop and write about a culture that is in between. Answer A is about style; this passage is more about content than style. It's not that these writers want their style to differ noticeably from Mexican-style writing, but that they want their subject matter and their characters to live in that world between cultures.

Hello,

Is (D) incorrect because of "critical"? Thank you!

Hi lilmissunshine,
I think you are right about 'critical' not fitting with the passage in relation to the bilingual writing. It would be fitting to say that they value bilingual writing since it resonates with their bicultural experiences, but valuing the critical acceptance of bilingual writing does not seem to be supported.
Hope that helps,
-Malila
