Hi,

I narrowed down the answer choices to B and D but I picked B. May you please explain why D is correct? Also, do I diagram this problem? (If so, how is that done?)

Here's the diagram:

Pet stores Birds Fish

Fish and NOT birds Gerbils Independently owned

The only inference we can draw from these two diagrams is that if a store sells fish but not birds, it cannot be an independently owned store. This is an additive inference that results from the conditional relationship in the second diagram.
