I narrowed the answer choices to B and C, and I ultimately chose the right answer because this seemed more accurate. But I am still struggling to see why answer choice C is wrong.

Hi!

The conclusion is: environmentalists would be misguided if they attributed the loss of a population to pollution in all cases.
Answer B is:The loss of a specific population should not always be interpreted as a sign of environmental degradation.
Answer C is: Environmentalists’ use of indicator species in tracking the effects of pollution is often problematic.

The conclusion and B are both conditional statements using would and should, C states that it IS a past and current problem, which is a higher degree of certainty, also C does not offer advice to environmentalists.
