LR Problem Set #1 Question 46

Hi,

I am currently working on the LR Problem Set #1 and have the following question:

#46: The correct answer here is B, and I put E. I realize that E is an exaggeration with the use of the words "NO ONE", but it was the last one standing for me. I eliminated B because I thought that there was nothing in the stimulus that had to do with "saving several animal lives or in protecting the health of a person".

Any help would be appreciated, thank you so much!!!

haven't glanced at the actual question yet, but a couple of things. first, "no one" is perhaps better classified as an absolute, rather than an exaggeration. next, if you have eliminated all the answer choices, don't pick the one that's left, if you don't think it's very good. better to realize that you may have misread the stimulus, and go back and ANALYZE it (not read it) more carefully.
this also relates to one of your other questions, where you mentioned that you don't understand the answer choice. better to go back and understand the question, so that you are less likely to be misled by an answer choice, which is deliberately intended to be, as we say, an attractive distraction.

Thank you so much for the advice, I definitely noticed that I was doing that a bit on some of the questions and have noticed an improvement since then. However, I'm still unable to understand why B is the correct answer here. I understand now why E is incorrect, but I still don't see why B is right specifically because of the "saving several animal lives or in protecting the health of a person" aspect.

I must admit that both (b) and (e) look like good answer choices for question 46. I've been looking it over and over, trying to suggest some advice, but I believe you and r miller are right to focus on the strong words, "no one" used in answer (e). Additionally, those words are followed by "ever," another particularly strong word.

That's the only fault I can find with (e) over (b). You rightly note that (b) brings material in that you don't find in the stimulus. But I suppose her decision accords with it. This is how I diagramed (b):

Justified Saves Lives or Protect Health

~Save Lives and ~Protect Health ~Justified

Beyond writing out the conditional reasoning, I reiterate what you and r miller discussed. Additionally, (b) doesn't seem like a great answer to me, but the LSAT does state you're only to pick the "best" of the five.
