Hiya,

I was unable to attend 2 admitted students events because the schools were across the country and I had family (with small children) visiting from out of town. Now I very much want to visit the schools before the first seat deposit in 2 weeks but I don't know if there is "etiquette" surrounding travel stipends. I have been unable to find any information as to whether either school is willing to reimburse part of my travel to visit the campus outside of the designated "admitted students events" and I want to ask admissions but I'm afraid it will seem rude? I don't know whether schools traditionally reimburse the travel of admitted students who can't make it to their organized events.

thank you!

Hi J. Rafert,

Many schools do offer travel stipends to students traveling over a certain threshold (i.e. 200 miles, financial need, visiting from out-of-state, etc.). If you can't find anything online about whether the specific schools you've been admitted to offer the stipends or on what basis, the only thing to do is ask them directly. They won't think it's rude; on the contrary, they admitted you, they want you to come and give them a chance to sell their school to you in person.

Hope this helps!
