Reading Comp & Logic Games Section Review

Hello hello PS,

I was just wondering what the best method is for reviewing RC and LG practice test sections. I have read the articles about blind review, delayed blind review, etc. and have been keeping logs of questions I've had difficulty with or missed outright. These methods only really help with LR when I go back through my tests however. When I go back through the RC and LG sections, I pretty much just redo the games and re-read the passages and look at all of the questions to see where I went wrong or where I could have improved. While this does help, I just feel like there could be a better way that I could get more out of it.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to ask this, so if there is another thread where you guys answered this question, please let me know.

You have picked up on a critical component of reviewing logic games and reading comp passages. It's not like logic reasoning where each question is independent of the ones around it. You need to think of them as a chunk to be done all together. It's hard to review them after the fact, because you've already drawn ALL over the page. It's hard to get a second clear shot at it without losing track of what you did timed and what you did as review. So....you need two copies of the games and passages. First round, just like you've been doing practice sections. Timed. Your best work every time.

For the games, take as much time as you need the second go around. Diagram things carefully. Diagram every answer choice in a game if you have to. Just take the time you need to understand the game carefully. Then put your second attempt side by side with your first, and compare the two. What were the differences? Did you make incorrect assumptions the first time? Did you miss an inference? Which questions took too long? Was there a faster way you could have done it? The HOW is just as important as the correct answer in the review portion of the game.

For reading comprehension, you'll need to do a reread focusing on the VIEWSTAMP elements. For the second go around, I'd write them out. Make sure you have something marked for viewpoints and main point in the passage, and note structure, tone, and argument on the side. Look at questions you missed, and compare what elements of VIEWSTAMP would have helped you identify them more accurately. Look at your two passages (first attempt and second) side by side, and try to see where you missed critical components of the passage. Usually it's a matter of structure, but it could be another aspect of the passage that you overlooked or misunderstood. Try to pay attention to where and why you overlook things---are you skimming over the passage too quickly? Are you diagramming too much and cluttering up your passage? Are you looking over definitions that would help you?

Games and reading comp take a bit more work to review. It's worth it though.
