I am thinking about applying ED to Columbia. What are my chances? Should I consider retaking the LSAT to increase the odds, or my GRE will be able to help me get over the hump?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Hi QWERASD,
Thanks for the message! Just on your LSAT/GPA alone, you are looking fairly strong. The Top3 will be a challenge, but you have reasonably good chances at much of the rest of the T14, and I'd wager you pull some admits (that all depends on executing your PS and LORs at the top level, of course).
Should you ED? I'm not sure you should.
At some schools it is a benefit and others a negative, but you also kill your ability to negotiate for financial aid when you go ED. So, it will really depend on the schools you prefer and whether it's a net positive or negative at those schools.
Last, this is some mildly bad news for you, but your GRE score is no longer applicable as far as admissions. Law schools are obligated to use LSAT scores in admission when they are present, so having both is no benefit at all. GRE scores are only useful when that's the only score you have. Since you have an LSAT score on record, that is what schools will use. They will see those GRE scores and surely be impressed, but they don't report those in your case and thus their effect on admission is negligible.
Overall you chances look strong no matter which direction you go with ED, and your LSAT score is good enough that the main reason to retake would be to improve your financial offers, or to secure a better chance at HYS. Those are both excellent reasons for many, but it depends on your situation as to whether that suggests
you should retake.
Thanks!
