I’m applying once again and redoing my essays, resume and so on. Unfortunately, I have been out of school for a number of years and don’t know how easy it would be to obtain new LORs. Is this something I should be worrying about?

Maybe. How old are the LORs you already have? If they are more than several years old, there's a good chance you might need new ones. Now, if you have an academic one from years ago that's great and you can't get a replacement, it's ok to use it but they will want to see some new stuff in there.

Thanks!

Hello,

I wanted to tack on this question..

I graduated in December 2015 so I've been out of school for several years now.

My LORs are from 2016 and I will be applying this fall. I have 2 academic LORs from former professors and 1 LOR from a professor who oversaw a student organization I was a part of.

By the fall, I would've had a full time job for almost 3 years. Should I be asking my employer for a LOR? Is it okay to use the older ones? I assume the ones I have are good because I had a good relationship with my professors but I haven't read them to know whether or not should replace them.

I also know law schools limit you to a certain number of LORs that you can attach so I'm going to have to be selective when it comes to attaching them. They're all general LORs. I don't have any that are school - specific. Is having a school-specific LOR a benefit?

Thank you!

Hi rumiixo,

You should DEFINITELY be getting a LOR from your current employer. then you can pair that with one of your older academic LORs to create balance.

You do not need school-specific LORs,; it's not done that way anymore because it's too time-consuming, so there's no penalty for it being general.

Thanks!
