Hi,

I've finished the live online course and have been taking practice tests, but I've found that I'm in a score rut of 164 when I want to score in the high 160s. Mostly, I've found that I'm consistently scoring around 70-80% for the LR sections, even if I'm improving in the other sections. I've gotten pretty good at narrowing down the answers, but I'll still miss 5 or 6 in the LR section by getting confused between 2 answer choices. I think I, for the most part, understand the concepts, I just get confused on the "better" answer choice. Is there a way to get out of this rut other than more practice? Thanks!

Hi N. Wang,

There are definitely patterns that the LSAT commonly uses that can give you a better understanding of tougher questions that appear after the first 10. The LSAT only tests for a defined range of skills, including careful reading and, to a certain extent, vocabulary, in addition to the logic-specific ones. You can definitely learn some of the "tricks" the test-makers use and train yourself to anticipate them.

However, before we get into specifics it would be good to know a little more about your exact scoring profile. Do you have time issues? Does your concentration start to flag at a certain point in a section? Are you missing specific question types, or more difficult examples of all types?

Lastly, you may consider private tutoring as an option. A tutor can help zero in on the specific issues you're having and overcome them.

Hope this helps!

Hi James, thanks for the response!

Timing is definitely not an issue for me in LR, and my concentration tends to waver a little bit halfway through the section. Usually I just let myself glide over the section, flag it to return to it, and use the next question to return to my concentration (if that makes sense).

Hi nwang121!

Thanks for the response! Could you also please let us know if you are missing specific question types, or more difficult examples of all types? If you're not certain where your strengths/weaknesses lie, please note that we do provide a test scoring and feedback section in your Online Student Center. I would recommend taking a close look at your test results feedback. :)

In addition, please take a look at this blog post and use this as a guide to provide us with some more information:

We're happy to help, but in order for us to provide the best advice, we want to make sure we have an accurate picture of your strengths, weaknesses, etc. Thanks!
