Hello, PS. I recently purchased the online PS course and LSAC Prep Plus to get used to taking the digital test. However, on the RC section I noticed that instead of numbered paragraphs, some of the test questions highlight words (in a teal color) of sentences that are to be analyzed. I also noticed that sometimes the questions that are highlighted on the stimulus are NOT highlighted in the paragraph. When this happens, I find myself scrambling to figure out where the question is directing me. :-? Do you all know if this is a glitch? Have others had this problem on the actual flex test?

Below is an exact location of this apparent discrepancy on the LSAC Prep Plus:

Prep Test 58 Section 4 Questions 11 & 12.
Question 11 shows the teal highlighting in the paragraph. Question 12 does not.

Hi lilRio,

To clarify, are you referring to the tests provided directly on LSAC's Prep Plus site, or are you referring to tests you're taking with PowerScore's digital testing interface?

I don't see any teal highlighting on PowerScore's interface for either of those questions, so I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to.

Thanks!

Dear Stephanie,

I am referring to the LSAC Prep Plus site. My more general question is since there are not numbered paragraphs on the digital RC section, does the test now highlight words in the question stem that will also be highlighted in the RC paragraph? For example, the question stem says "...the second from the last sentence of the second paragraph...". Should the aforementioned sentence now be highlighted within the paragraph? I have seen that sometimes it is highlighted and some other times it is not. This inconsistency makes me wonder how the actual Flex test will be like in regards to the highlighting.

Hi lilRio,

The answer here is: it varies. Specific quotes will be highlighted in both places when highlighting occurs. For example, PT 71, Section 4, #8 and #13 shows that happening in the question stem and in the passage. However, there will be exceptions to what is highlighted, depending on what is being mentioned, and how. Your example, as one, is one where there would NOT be highlighting according to what we've seen.

Here's another aparent discrepancy, from PT 73, Section 4:

  • #10: Question stem states, "Which one of the following, if true, would most help to explain the claim about the suspension of disbelief (near the middle of the second paragraph)?"

The text with the different color is highlighted in the digital interface question stem.
The sentence that contains the claim in the passage is then highlighted.

#14: Question stem states, "The discussion of suspension of disbelief in the second paragraph serves which one of the following purposes?"

There is no highlighting in the question stem.
The sentence that contains the claim in the passage is not highlighted.

You'd think it would be highlighted in that second example as well, but it's not.

The one rule is if that there is nothing highlighted in the question stem, then nothing is highlighted in the passage.

Thanks!

Dear Dave,

Thank you for your reply. I will follow the general rule of "If words are highlighted in the question stem, the referenced words will also be highlighted in the paragraph." On a side note, I did communicate with LSAC directly in regards to Prep Test 58 Section 4 Question 12 (the words are highlighted in the question stem but NOT in the paragraph). The response I received is below:

"The Testing team is working on this issue for the PrepTest."

I am assuming that this is a glitch. Hopefully, the Flex Test will not have this issue.

I feel like I am shadowing you with the same problem. Just yesterday, I was on LSAC website going through some questions in RC, and noticed they seem to have the same issue. However, I returned to the question a short time later, and it was highlighted the second time. It seems to be a transient issue.

Dear all,

I am working on some RC homework sections using the Powerscore software, and I am seeing the same issue. Words are highlighted in a teal color in the question stem but NOT highlighted in the paragraph itself. The location where I see this happening is below:

Lesson 2 Homework Reading Comprehension Problem Set: Introductory Passage #6 June 1992 Questions 2 & 5.

Again, this is using Powerscore's Online Student Center software. At this point, I am accepting that this glitch may come up on the actual Flex Test, which is unfortunate. Had LSAC just left the numbered paragraphs, this wouldn't be such a problem because one could quickly pinpoint the specific section of the paragraph if the question stem provided said numbers.

Hi lilRio,

Thanks for pointing this out! This should now be fixed on our end. :)

Thanks!

Hello,

I am still having issues with reading comp question stems being highlighted in teal but nothing in the passage being highlighted when doing PT's and individual passages on the powerscore interface. I took pt 68 today and questions 18, 25, and 27 had teal highlighting in the question stem but nothing in the passage was highlighted. Afterwards when I clicked to review those individual questions, the question stem and passages were highlighted correctly but then when I hit edit answers and went back into the testing interface the teal highlighting in the passage disappeared again.
