Hi Seanjohn399!

This is a Justify question.

For Justify questions, we first want to identify the conclusion. Here, the question stem directly tells us that the conclusion is the hospital officials' belief that discontinuation of the on-site laundry services for staff will not put patients at risk.

Now the rest of the stimulus tells us that residential laundry machines do not kill the dangerous Acinetobacter, whereas industrial laundry machines do. So the hospital officials' belief doesn't make much sense, since it seems like getting rid of the on-site washing machines will allow for more Acinetobacter. So since we're looking to Justify the conclusion, we're looking for an answer choice that supports that belief. Why do the officials believe that discontinuing laundry on-site won't expose patients to Acinetobacter? Our right answer choice will give us an explanation.

Answer Choice (E) doesn't give us a good explanation. Eve if residential laundry machines kill the other bacteria, this dangerous Acinetobacter is still out there putting patients at risk! So this doesn't explain the officials' belief.

Answer Choice (D), on the other hand, does explain the belief. If residential dryers are enough to kill the Acinetobacter, then discontinuing the on-premise laundry shouldn't result in a bunch more Acinetobacter endangering patients since people can just kill that particular bacteria at home.

Hope that helps!
