You are correct, the support for answer choice (B) is that last part of the third paragraph: "In almost all of
those universes, the laws of physics might not allow the formation of matter as we know it and therefore of life. But given the sheer number of possibilities, nature would have had a good chance to get the “right” set of laws at least once." Thus, if the hero "was actually just one of many people sent on the mission, but almost all of the others failed" it would be analogous to this multiverse hypothesis where there were many possibilities, upping the chance that one would succeed even if almost all of them failed.
