I found answers D & E to be very similar. I chose E at first but decided it was D during blind review. How should I be distinguishing between the two?

Hi MeliXi!

Answer choices (D) and (E) definitely deal with some similar concepts but let's look at the differences between them:

(D) The political ends of movement participants are best analyzed in terms of participants' psychological motivations.
(E) Psychological motivations of movement participants better illuminate the causes of social movements than do participants' political motivations.

Answer choice (D) is basically saying that we should analyze the political motivations of participants in terms of their psychological motivations.

Answer choice (E), on the other hand, says that psychological motivations are better for illuminating the causes of social movements than political motivations.

So both (D) and (E) talk about psychological motivations and political motivations but they talk about them in different ways. (D) is about using psychological motivations to analyze political motivations and (E) is about using psychological motivations instead of political motivations to understand the causes of social movements.

Hope this helps!

Best,
Kelsey
