Hi,

None of the answers really convinced me and I ended up choosing B.
Where can I fin support for the correct answer choice D? Is it correct that the reference should be paragraph 2?

Thank you.

You'll find that evidence in the second paragraph, luna2021, where the author told us that "Gordy insisted that the musical performances recorded by Motown artists would appeal not just to African American audiences," as well as the following lines about what he believed. Based on these lines it would be wise to prephrase something like "confidence" or "certainty" when asked about his attitude towards the possibility of widespread appeal. Gordy would have said "of course it will have broad appeal! We don't need to have other artists re-record these songs, we just need to make great music with high technical quality!"

That alone should be enough to eliminate answer A, and answer B ("willingness") is just too mild. "Courage" in answer C might be a little attractive, but there is nothing in the passage about "unpromising statistics," so that's not the issue we should address with the answer. Answer E has a similar problem, because although Gordy was obviously optimistic, his attitude has nothing to do with economic conditions, at least not to any extent covered by the passage. No, Gordy's attitude is confidence built on a firm belief that all you need is great music. Answer D is the best match for that!
