Hello,

I am studying currently about a month and a half in and my reading comprehension is all over the place. My scores are generally between -5 and -10 but when when I feel like I understand a section well my scores are the same as when I feel completely lost in a section. I have always thought I was good at reading and understanding and have been ahead of my peers for the most part but I can’t see a way to improve on reading. Any tips/ideas? Thanks!

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your post! I'm including some helpful links below to hopefully get you started! These links reference ways to improve your RC speed and performance. :)

A Timing Strategy for Faster Reading Comprehension Performance
Reading Comprehension Webinar: Skills & Diagnostic Tests
Approaching Reading Comprehension Sections Strategically
LSAT Podcast Episode 41: Reading Comprehension Skill Tests

But without knowing your exact strengths and weaknesses, it's difficult to give more specific advice. If you would like some further advice, please provide us with a bit more detail first. You can use this blog post as a guideline to provide us with some more information:
https://blog.powerscore.com/lsat/need-l ... help-you/.

More specifically, please let us know what you have done as far as preparation thus far (our Reading Comprehension Bible, a course, tutoring, etc?)

Also, a better sense of what exactly you're struggling with in RC will help us provide more personalized tips. :) For example, are you struggling with timing? Are there certain passage types or question types you struggle with? If you run into a problem identifying your weaknesses and how to improve them, a tutor may be something to consider as well.

I hope this helps! Thanks!

Hello,

I’m looking to take the test this summer June/August. I’ve been studying for about a month and a half at about 10-15 hours a week probably. I’ve been using all the 10 LSAT actuals and The LSAT trainer by Mike Kim, as well as YouTube videos/forums. I’ve done a couple practice tests and got 161 and 159. I would like to get that up to atleast 165 but preferably higher if I can of course maybe 167/168.
I can finish all the sections within the time limit except logic games. Like I was saying, I can kind of see how I’m Improving on other section but reading comp. I can’t see how to improve. The questions regarding the authors beliefs/attitudes/ would agree/disagree seem to be a problem area for me. There are others too but that’s the one that jumps out right now. Also the comparative passages are a bit more difficult I think than the single ones.

Thanks!

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the response. I'd highly recommend giving our Reading Comprehension Bible a try. That will go even more in-depth into the topics and approaches that I linked in my post above. :)

In addition, I would continue to practice! A month into studying and scoring 161/159 is great! More practice, and more importantly, a close review of your practice tests is going to help you track your progress and pinpoint areas of weakness.

Also, I'd suggest practicing with LSAT questions online to get the feel of RC in the digital format rather than the "old-fashioned" paper format that's no longer used. There are some minor differences between the two formats when it comes to RC. For example, in the digital format, you can use ctrl+F (command+F on a Mac), which allows you to quickly find words/phrases in an RC passage. You can also highlight on the digital test/passage itself. On the flip side, you can't make notations directly on the passage but instead will use scrap paper to make notes. LSAC Prep Plus through LawHub gives you acess to those digital tests. As an extension to Prep Plus, we offer our analytics package, which will allow you to practice specific RC passage types and sections.

I hope this helps! Thanks!
