Hi,

After rereading the question and looking at the correct answer, I see that the stimulus does not imply that the professor is one of Joan's friends. It seemed like a random piece of information at the end of the stimulus. I initially chose D because I thought the professor was a part of the friend group. Please let me know what you think about my thinking process for this question.

You're missing something pretty important here. It's not just that the stimulus does not imply that the professor is one of Joan's friends - the stimulus implies that the professor is definitely not one of Joan's friends. None of her friends prefers Aurora, but the professor does. The professor therefore can't be her friend at all.
