How do we know that the name to the butter than has a lower butterfat content than imitation butter won't be just as attractive if not more attractive than the new "light butter"? If this was the case people continuing to purchase the same lower butterfat content butter that is the healthiest (because it contains the least butterfat content). This does not result in people eating butter with higher fat but instead has no affect on the butter fat amount that people currently eat b/c the new name won't result in a change in butter choice b/c the new name may not be more attractive than the name to the lower fat butter they are currently consuming.

Hey saranash1,

That's a good question; in that one, based on the premise that the public should be encouraged to lower their butterfat intake, the author concludes that the manufacturers should be allowed to change their products' names from "imitation" to the more appealing "lite."

Answer choice E provides that most people who were deterred from buying "imitation" butter bought products with even less butterfat than this product. Recall that the author wants people to reduce their butterfat intake; this choice provides that the deterrence caused by the term "imitation" actually serves that goal, encouraging the public to further minimize their butterfat intake. This would weaken the author's argument for changing the name to a more appealing "lite."

I hope that's helpful! Please let me know whether this is clear--thanks!
