Hello powerscore,
Could someone please check my approach for this question and see if I have identified the conclusion correct ?

1) formal education <some> good musical education
2) parents who want to provide strong foundation --> formal education

C: parents who want to provide strong foundation--> should provide them with good musical education

Flaw : the author is making an all statement from a some statement that doesn't even connect properly . We could have made an inference If formal educationa in statement 2 was a sufficient condition . But we can't attach a some statement to a necess condition and that's why answer choice D is correct.

Thanks
John

Hey John,

Looking pretty good, except I think your conclusion isn't quite right. In fact, the first two parts of your analysis are pretty much all you need:
1) formal education <some> good musical education
2) parents who want to provide strong foundation --> formal education
Part 2 above is the conclusion. John, as I've responded to some of your posts I've noticed that at times you perhaps get too caught in the weeds with symbolizing and diagramming stimuli. Remember that a stimulus is essentially an overlay on top of a sparse logical structure. Not everything in a given stimulus deserves your attention. Try to zero in on the important, salient concepts or relationships and dispense with the palaver.

Summarily, formal education is often a part of good musical education, but is not necessarily a part thereof.

That's it! Work on getting to the gist of these stimuli. You'll get both faster and more accurate in the process.
